FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Soakwell?

Soakwells can be made from concrete or plastic. The idea being that water will be captured rather than running off into garden, driveways and roads.

Your roof should direct the storm water to be captured and released slowly back into the earth safely, without any impact on your homes foundations, pavers or driveways.

Some systems can be attached to a detention tank, where rain water can be captured and stored for reuse.

Plastic Soakwells

Plastic or more specifically polypropylene soakwells have proved very versatile and cost effective solution. Lighter and easier to manage than concrete, the polypropylene soakwells have proved very effective in domestic and commercial application.

The Polypropylene units are quicker and easier to install, this equates to a more cost effective install and even repairs.

Concrete Soakwell

Concrete are the tried and tested soakwells. Strong and virtually maintenance free. The concrete is still the soakwell of choice for most commercial applications. The concrete dependability does come at a higher price than plastic and they are somewhat more labour intensive to install and repair.

What are council requirements for Storm water detention?

Most councils require that your property capture and store a minimum of 2000 liters from the roof. Your roof should also direct a minimum of 60% of your roof area to the storm water detention system.

Storm Water detention differs from council to council, so get in touch to see if your plans meet your councils needs.
